In rare cases you may need to manually select the display profile. This is possible from within the [soft proof](../../module-reference/utility-modules/darkroom/soft-proof.md) and [gamut check](../../module-reference/utility-modules/darkroom/gamut.md) option dialogs in the darkroom view and the display profile dialog in the lighttable view.

When this is done, you can measure the brightness and chromaticity of a control sample, preferably located on a non-moving surface that is consistently lit across your series (and appearing in all the frames). These measurements are taken using the [_area exposure mapping_](../module-reference/processing-modules/exposure.md#area-exposure-mapping) and [_color calibration area mapping_](../module-reference/processing-modules/color-calibration.md#area-color-mapping) tools. They will be memorized and will serve as a target for individual images as needed.

This module appears later in the pipeline than the deprecated [_crop and rotate_](./crop-rotate.md) module, meaning that the full image can remain available for source spots in the [_retouch_](./retouch.md) module. For best results, you are advised to use the [_rotate and perspective_](./rotate-perspective.md) module to perform rotation and perspective correction (if required), and then perform final creative cropping with this module.

The _contrast equalizer_ module decomposes the image into various detail scales. On each detail scale, you can independently adjust the contrast and denoise splines for lightness ("luma") and chromaticity (“chroma”, or color saturation), as well as adjusting the edge-awareness (“edges”) of the wavelet transform. The luma, chroma and edges splines are provided on separate tabs, and some examples of their usage are given in the following sections.

: Remove the selected images from the darktable library and remove any associated XMP sidecar files from the filesystem. If no duplicates of a removed image remain in the darktable library, the image file itself is also deleted. You can control whether this action irrevocably deletes the files or attempts to put them into your system's trash bin with a configuration item in [preferences > security](../../../preferences-settings/security.md). A second configuration item in the same tab allows you to control whether or not to be prompted before deleting images.
