Image groups are also a convenient way to protect an existing history stack against unintentional changes. If you have just finalized an image and want to protect its current version, simply select the image, click “duplicate” in the actions on selection panel, and make sure that grouping is switched on and that the group is collapsed. Now, whenever you open the image group again in the darkroom, only the group leader will be altered. The underlying duplicate will remain unchanged.
Os grupos de imagens também são uma forma conveniente de proteger uma pilha de histórico atual contra mudanças não intencionais. Se você acabou de finalizar uma imagem e deseja proteger sua versão atual, simplesmente selecione a imagem, clique em “duplicar” no painel de ações na seleção e certifique-se de que o agrupamento está ligado e que o grupo está recolhido. You can combine images into a group by selecting them and clicking the “group” button in the [actions on selection](../../../module-reference/utility-modules/lighttable/selected-image.md) module, or by pressing Ctrl+G. Likewise, you can remove selected images from a group by clicking the “ungroup” button, or pressing Ctrl+Shift+G.

_Missing image file_: darktable remembers all images it has ever imported, as long as they have not been removed from your database. If darktable wants to create a thumbnail but is not able to open the input file, a skull is displayed instead. Users are advised to remove images from the database using the [actions on selection](../../../module-reference/utility-modules/lighttable/selected-image.md) module before physically removing them from disk. Alternatively you may occasionally run the script [`purge_non_existing_images.sh`](../../../special-topics/program-invocation/purge_non_existing_images_sh.md) from darktable's toolset to clean-up your database.
_Falta do arquivo da imagem_: O darktable se lembra de todas as imagens que foram importadas, caso elas não tenham sido removidas da sua base de dados. Se o darktable quiser criar uma miniatura mas não for capaz de abrir o arquivo de entrada, uma caveira é exibida em substituição. look for updated XMP files on startup
: Scan all XMP files on startup and check if any have been updated in the meantime by some other software. If updated XMP files are found, a menu is opened for the user to choose which of the XMP files to reload (replacing darktable's database entries by the XMP file contents) and which of the XMP to overwrite from darktable's database. Activating this option also causes darktable to check for text sidecar files that have been added after import time (default off).

store XMP tags in compressed format
: Entries in XMP tags can get rather large and may exceed the available space to store the history stack in some output files on export. This option allows binary XMP tags to be compressed in order to save space. Available options are “never”, “always”, and “only large entries” (default).

: It's strongly recommended that you choose either "on import" or "after edit". Sidecar files provide a useful fail-safe to prevent data loss if your database becomes corrupted. Backing up your raw file plus the accompanying sidecar file will allow you to fully restore your work at a later date by re-importing your edit history back into darktable (default "on import").
